After the successful inauguration of Metro BUS in Lahore by Punjab Government, the Federal Government of Pakistan is planning for providing the facility of Metro Bus to the residents Karachi. The PM Nawaz Sharif has instructed to form a task force in this regard.
Task Force:
The task force will be lead by the Finance Minster Ishaq Dar and includes the members Secretary Finance, Secretary of Road Transport and Highways, Chairman NHA National Highway Authority, Chief Secretary Sindh, Secretary planning & Development Sindh, Secretary Finance Sindh, Commissioner Karachi, Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and analyst of Transport from Pakistan and foreigner as well.
Members of Task force:
The task force will consist of 30 members and will submit the report regarding the Metro Bus Karachi Project. The Project will start from MauriPur near by the PAF Operational Base Masroor. The Busses will be run on the different routes including MauriPur to Landhi, MauriPur to Sohrab Goth, MauriPur to Surjani Town and MauriPur to Orangi on 4 different routes.
Routes:
About 150 to 180 kilo meters of track will be laid down for these 4 routes in four different directions. Turkey and China will provide the technical help. The officials of Federal Government said that the service will be started firstly from MauriPur to Sohrab Goth.
Cost Estimations and Duration:
This project is estimated at 200 billion rupees and will be completed within the 5 to 8 years. After the formation of Task force the members will survey the different roads of Karachi with the help of Sindh Government and KMC Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. This project will be completed with public private partnership. Federal Government will provide 30%, Sindh Government 20% and rest of funding will be raised from Private Sector. The First round of project will cost about 55 billion rupees and about 250 Air Conditioned busses will be run on the roads of Karachi.
