The Government of Punjab announced the inauguration of MBS (Metro Bus Service). The project was started with the help of Turkish Government keeping in the view especially the traffic problems of Metropolitan City Lahore. The population of City touches about 10 million and hence the traffic increases rapidly and it seems that nearly every person has owned at least one motor-bicycle and most of others have motor-car or other vehicles.
The history of MBS in over the entire world is very positive and remarkable. It is a safe, comfortable and faster way to travel. MBS firstly started in Brazil in 1974, this successful project has spanned over all the world in Seoul Korea, Jakarta Indonesia, Los Angles America, Istanbul Turkey, Ahmadabad India and Bogota Colombia. Now Punjab Government has started this project and it seems that the project will start functioning from 10th of February this year. The Cost of project is Rs 30 billion and will complete in about one year. The project is especially designed for lower-middle and lower class and the Government of Punjab announced the affordable rates for general public. The Route is 27 km long form Gajumata to Shahdara. The MBS in Turkey completed in 3 years while near to complete in Pakistan within One Year. The cost to complete this project under the earth required 250 billion rupees. The structure of MBS is so strong that in near future train can also be run on the MBS track. The supervision of the project handed over to sub-agency of LDA Lahore Development Authority TEPA. The project is divided into 8 sessions and at the same time different firms start construction in three shifts 8 hours daily to complete the project as soon as possible. The project also claims a bridge about 8.6 km Long from Tamsil center Feroz Pur Road to Bohar Wala Chowk Lytton Road.
The Buses for MBS route are 18 meter long with capacity of 150 people manufactured by a China Company named as VOLVO. Separate compartments for ladies and gents are reserved. After every two minutes a bus will arrive at each of the station. The total number of stations in MBS is 27. The station terminals are modernized and electric stairs are fitted on station where required. Generators are purchased to run the electric stairs in case of electric load shedding. The ticketing system is expected to be also modern.
Metro Bus Service will carry about eight thousand passengers in one an hour and about one hundred thousand people on daily basis. Due to no disturbance in route the 27 km journey from Gajumata to Shahdara will cover in just 45 minutes. The buses will run at the average speed of about 40 km per hour. The project will benefit those who have to travel for some km on roads with time consuming.
Metro Bus Service
The Metro Bus Authority will look after the administrative affairs of company. WMC Waste Management Company of Lahore is responsible to keep the MBS track keep and clean. The central Room will monitor the security issues of MBS to make the route safe and sound with the help of CCTV cameras and 300 security staff. The public will get entertained after inauguration as first two weeks a free for everyone to travel. Parking area is also under plan for the passengers of MBS on 11 different places. A team of six trained drivers from Turkey will educate the Metro Bus Service drivers.
This project is indeed like a Miracle in the history of Punjab and also in Pakistan. Thousands of people got their job during the construction and many others will get their job to run this MBS Company. This project will be very important for the people of Lahore for time saving as well economically. Thousands of people will get benefit from this project.
